Message from the president of the IFCW

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Seventeen years ago, the first Worldforum brought a committed group of chief executives and child welfare professionals to Cologne, Germany. Since that time, this annual exchange of information and knowledge has moved to various parts of the world from Europe to Australia, from Asia to the Americas, and back to Europe from South Africa. Each Worldforum tends to reflect the unique culture and emerging child welfare agenda of the hosting Nation. Last year's sixteenth Worldforum, which took place in Tallinn, Estonia, was an outstanding example of how this annual event has grown in both its scope and relevance.

Worldforum 2006, which is scheduled to take place from November 19th to 22nd in Vancouver, Canada, promises to be one of the best yet. The International Forum for Child Welfare is honoured to be co-hosting this significant conference with British Columbia's Ministry of Children and Families, the Provinces of Alberta and Ontario as well as the Child Welfare League of Canada. This global exchange of most recent child welfare research, best practice and policy directions will bring delegates from all parts of North America together with their counterparts from other developed and developing countries to share vision and action for improving child welfare outcomes.

This annual opportunity for building and renewing relationships, expanding horizons, and learning from one another, is a significant benefit of membership in the International Forum for Child Welfare. Please consider how you and your organization can contribute to improving the welfare of the world's children and youth....... join us for Worldforum 2006 in Vancouver, Canada.

Sincerely Yours,

Bruce Rivers

Message from the president of the Child Welfare League of Canada

Dear colleagues and friends:

I am delighted to welcome you to worlforum 2006: future directions in child welfare. This international conference, in the dynamic and diverse city of Vancouver, is focused on prevention and responses to child neglect and maltreatment. This continues in the tradition of the international community coming together to respond to the basic needs and rights of children and youth around the world.

The conference program features key thinkers and practitioners who will engage us in the evaluation of new and innovative approaches to the prevention and response to child and youth maltreatment and neglect. The presentations, workshops and discussions aim to share and explore knowledge about child welfare practices by including the Aboriginal perspective and youth involvement, two important components when determining new methods and reactions to this critical issue.

This annual conference provides the professional community with an international opportunity to discuss child welfare practices. I congratulate all of you for taking up the challenge of erasing child and youth maltreatment and neglect from the global community.

Have a safe and enriching conference - and explore one of Canadas greatest cities!
